Friends of Blackstone School
Friends of Blackstone School, Inc. was formed by current school volunteers and neighbors to support Blackstone Elementary School by raising funds and engaging the South End community. Founded in 2012 and incorporated that summer, the organization quickly secured IRS tax exempt status and was built entirely through volunteer leadership with no paid staff. Inspired by the sense of excitement and achievement within the school, Friends of Blackstone School believes that urban public schools deserve broad community support and that neighbors benefit as much as students through meaningful local involvement.
Guided by priorities set by the school’s Site Council, the organization focuses its efforts across four key areas: providing classroom supplies and support for teachers, strengthening parent and family involvement, supporting curriculum enrichment and professional development for staff, and improving the physical appearance of the school. Through the generosity of individuals and local organizations, Friends of Blackstone School continues to invest in creating a stronger, more connected school community rooted in shared responsibility.
