The Huntington
Since 1982, The Huntington has welcomed more than 3.5 million audience members, produced over 250 plays, including more than 140 premieres, and served more than half a million students. Nationally recognized as a champion of new American plays and honored with the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre, The Huntington has supported artists including Lydia R. Diamond, David Lindsay-Abaire, Melinda Lopez, Billy Porter, Kirsten Greenidge, Kenny Leon, Taylor Mac and the late August Wilson. The Huntington was among the first theatres to complete Wilson’s 10-play American Century Cycle, and its historic lobby is named in his honor.
Over more than four decades, The Huntington has grown from a Boston University department into an independent nonprofit and one of Boston’s leading cultural institutions. Its campus includes the Calderwood Pavilion, which opened in the South End in 2004, and the historic Huntington Theatre, which underwent a major transformation in 2022. Today, The Huntington continues its longstanding commitment to producing exceptional theatre, developing new American plays, supporting artists and connecting audiences and students with the power of live performance.
