South End Community Health Center

Our medical care and programs are patient-centered and focused on your preferences, needs, life-style and values.

Our Mission

The South End Community Health Center, which merged with the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center in 2020, is a board governed non-profit, comprehensive health care organization for all residents of the South End and the surrounding communities. We are committed to providing the highest quality, culturally and linguistically sensitive, coordinated health care and social services to every patient, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our History

Founded in 1969 by a renowned pediatrician, Dr. Gerald Hass, and neighborhood activists, the South End Community Health Center provides adult and family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, dental and eye care, as well as women’s health. For nearly 50 years our health center has been widely recognized for high-quality, linguistically and culturally sensitive care provided to all members of our community, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, physical ability, and/or income.

In 2012, we opened the Dr. Gerald Hass Center, the first full-time school-based health center in Boston, which offers medical, behavioral and dental services to the community and nearly 600 students of the Blackstone Innovation Elementary School.

The Health Center received a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) 330(i) designation to provide health care to the residents of Public Housing in 2013. Our dedicated multicultural and multilingual staff serves over 19,000 patients accounting for 75,000 visits annually.
